Imagine thousands of years of rich history converging in a single location and you begin to get a sense of what will take place at the Vietnamese Heritage Garden (VHG), at Kelley Park, in San Jose, California.
On this piece of land will emerge a living treasure of culture, tranquility, natural beauty, and the bond between the peoples of two continents.
The Vietnamese Heritage Garden is first of its kind to be developed in the nation. Two decades in the making, VHG is a monumental achievement led by the efforts of the Viet Heritage Society (VHS) and the generous contributions of many individuals and organizations in the community.
The Vietnamese Heritage Garden is designed as a place of tranquility where the culture and history of Vietnam will be cherished through art, architecture, and horticulture of various plants, tree, and flowers often found in Vietnam.
This serene garden, situated on 4.2 acres of land, granted to VHS by the City of San Jose, will serve as a gathering place where people of diverse backgrounds can come together and learn about Vietnamese culture. As a future resource center for cultural programs and education, VHG will not only serve to bridge communities and cultures, but also generations.
After nearly twenty years of planning, the next phase of Vietnamese history will be honored on Sunday, August 27, 2006 at the historic Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Vietnamese Heritage Garden.
Most legacies reflect the past, but the legacy of the Vietnamese Heritage Garden stem from the continuity of history, heritage, and hope. On this day, thousands of years of history will be planted in one-of-kind setting that will guarantee the preservation of those years for eternity and the community will celebrate the unique qualities of a distinct culture and proud people.
